• 1.0 out of 5 stars from Bedford Wife -- Too much wasted space! : If you had never heard of cruising this might be a useful book, but I found most of the info just common sense and nothing you wouldn't learn on your first cruise. The book had way too much empty space on the pages; could have been half the number of pages! I think I know how the author and her husband are able to cruise so much...they sell this empty book to many unsuspecting buyers! ( Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018 )

• 5.0 out of 5 stars from HK -- The only cruise advise book you will need : I went on my first cruise in Feb 2015 after a board exam hoping to have a vacation that I can just relax. I am, by nature, the planning type especially when it comes to travelling, not only because it is half the fun, but a good vacation most often does not just happen. So I did go to cruise advise sites to gather some information but frankly it's either too much information or not enough info. When I started to read this book I simply could not put it down! It is packed with numerous practical tips that only a seasoned cruiser would know. From searching and planning, packing, life on the ship, getting the best deals, choosing excursions, and so many other good to know information that it was literally the only cruise related book I brought with me (normally I have to get a few travel guides and tear the useful pages out and make a booklet out of it) and the only one I needed! I felt I traveled like a seasoned cruiser when I learned most passengers on board paid more than I did for the same cruise and the same type of room and less prepared. I had to lend my companion (who did not read the book) a few things that was mentioned in the book, which would have otherwise ruined one of her port days. I am so glad I brought 2 swimsuits! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Whoo? -- Great for our first time cruise! : When you go to book your first cruise, it is very overwhelming. I did not know where to start. This book answered so many basic questions and got me up to speed. I am grateful I got it. I did buy the second book too. I only gave that one 3 stars because it was not a book of new information. The majority of it seemed to duplicate the information I got in this one. While there are some differences in each, I did not find them enough to warrant both. But, I would definitely recommend that a new cruiser get one of them. The writer has a fun writing style and will get you up to speed on cruising in no time! I've been on many cruises and cannot think of a single thing I could add. She has a couple of others out as well. I read the follow up to this book and just got her mediterrean cruise book to read. She is lighthearted and fun to read. Very quick read I really enjoyed it. Would LOVE to meet them on a cruise sometime and hear more of her stories. I think the author goes a bit overboard with some recommendations but most are right on. especially if you are traveling with a family and children. It's just two of us (slightly older), so we would pack and chose rooms differently than someone with children or whole families. We have never tried an inside room but some very experienced cruisers who cruise all the time chose these rooms. since they spend so little time in the room. They refunded the money and said there ... : This really has to be one of the dumbest books I've ever read. In one of the chapters it suggests ordering all the appetisers in one sitting and mixing both main courses together. It also recommends taking one's sunglasses on holiday and an air freshener, as well, as to use public toilets for, well, you know! After five minutes, I requested a return to which Amazon happily obliged. They refunded the money and said there was no need to return the book! Says it all!!
